Amazing Race week four post game

It’s week four of the Amazing Race and for the first time ever an intersection causes two members of competing teams to work to together to accomplish a task which results in a city slicker helping a country boy. The dim-witted detectives are now making like Sherlock Holmes. The Cowboys are soccer masters but can’t handle a beer-drinking contest? One team is running on a bum leg. A Beauty Queen claims to be a soccer goal-scoring machine but has she actually got a leg to stand on? Team Big Brother gets thrown for a loop by bad GPS in taxi that might cost them. There are some spoilers ahead because one team has bungee jumped ahead of everybody to lead us to Germany.

Jet and Cord start their leg at 10.57 pm and are told to fly to Hamburg Germany, but again see their lead erased since the earliest flight leaving Argentina is 11:30 am. All the teams are bunched up again but on different routes or flights to Frankfurt where teams must catch a train to Hamburg to get their first clue. Somehow the dimwitted Detectives Louie and Michael end up on the same flight as Jet and Cord that is the first to arrive of the three planes. Jet and Cord along with Louis and Michael are able to catch the first train out to Frankfort, and second plane containing Carol and Brandy and the brothers Dan and Jordan arrive in time to be at the station with three minutes to catch that train but are unable to make it to the platform before it leaves.

Jet and Cord arrive at the clue box first but find they are at a rarely seen Amazing Race task called an Intersection, they must wait for another team to arrive at the clue box and work with the team to accomplish a task and stay with them until told otherwise. The Detective arrive and team up with the Cowboys, and open an addition clue that says they are at a roadblock and for the first time ever one member of each team must work with the other to accomplish the task of making their way to Hamburg Harbor and bungee jumping 150 feet. Michael and Jet team up and grab “the Metro’ which Michael has to explain to Jet is “the train” and heads for the harbor. When arriving and gearing up for the jump the attendant tells Jet to take off his Cowboy hat but Jet refuses and assures him it will stay on. At the top the bungee the pair take the plunge to get the next clue and sure enough Jet’s hat stays put and I don’t know how he managed it because must be super glued. He tells us a true Cowboy never takes off his hat. The pair is headed back to the teammates as the other teams arrive.

It is about this time that Joe from the married couple tells us he has a hurt leg that is bothering him. I thought it was also interested to see they have abandon their original alliance of Carol and Brandy in favor father daughter pair Steve and Ally who they choose to intersect with instead who I am sensing they deem a stronger team now. The lesbian duo hooks up with the brother since the gay members of both teams seem to be getting along better. This leaves the Big brother contestants Jeff and Jordan to team with the models Caite and Brent. Caite and Jordan are pumped up to do the bungee so they head for the train but get on the wrong one going in the opposite direction they need to be going which will put both teams behind for the rest of the leg.

At the bungee Joe further aggravates his leg injury with the bungee pulling on his leg, while Brandy tells us that she and Carol had bungee jumped to get over their fear of it knowing they might have to do it on the race. Brandy hated it and swore never to do it again but now must. Brandy is near hysterical after jumping while waiting to be pulled down but new teammate Daniel is supportive and talks her though it.

Back that the intersection Michael and Jet arrive and the team are allowed to unmerge and to look for the statue of Kaiser Wilhelm for their next clue. The Cowboys make their first real mistake in this leg and choose to take the train there and our Detective correctly scoop out a cab with a friendly female driver who will be with them most of the leg that gets them there faster and first. The Detectives find they are at the detour of soccer or sauerkraut. Team must find a nearby soccer park and kick 5 goals though exact targets or find a hamburger house and eat a huge plate of sauerkraut before a band finishing playing the sauerkraut polka or be forced to start again with another plate. The Detectives like to eat and choose the sauerkraut and Michael makes quick work of the plate to get the clue and are off to the Shark Bar to drink a large boot of beer.

Jet and Cord have fallen back and allowed the married couple and the father daughter team to catch up. Steve and Ally along with Joe and Heidi choose the soccer and Joe struggles with his injured leg allowing Steve and Alley to leave first. Joe realizing his leg is holding them back switches to the sauerkraut, which they finish quickly. The Cowboys surprisingly choose the soccer challenge and prove to be amazing good at it finishing it quicker than I expected and it appears there is nothing they can’t do but have fallen to fourth.

Meanwhile at the Shark Bar Louis takes over and downs most of the beer in the boot to get the final clue that leads them to the bar in the red light district where the Beatles first played in Germany and the pit shop. No longer looking like the keystone cops and more like Sherlock Holmes the Detectives Louie and Michael finish first.

At the back of the pack team Big Brother chooses the sauerkraut portion and get a cabbie that mistakes hamburger place for the town of Hamburg and punches the wrong directions into his GPS. This will cause the team to go miles out of their way before the error is discovered and they back track. Even worse when they arrive at sauerkraut challenge they fail to down it before the polka ends and then decide they must do the soccer putting them further behind. Caite and Brent can’t locate the soccer field either so they fall further back.

Father Daughter team of Steve and Ally arrive at the beer drink challenge first and Steve is excited to finally get the beer he’s wanted all trip and down most of the beer to power them to a second play finish. Joe and Heidi arrive ahead of the Cowboys and have little trouble with the beer either and finish the leg third. However we have finally found something the Cowboys aren’t good at drinking beer of all things since Cord admits he’s never drank beer before. They will finish the boot slowly as the bar patrons mock them and end up fourth.

Caite and Brent have finally found the soccer park and Caite is confident since she has played soccer since she was five even hitting a target on the first try but injuries her leg during it and slows the team down more but she still hits 3 of the 5 goals. The brothers and the lesbian couple have taken opposite parts of the detour but have completed them easily and are headed to the beer-drinking contest. Carol and Brandy even arrive as the Cowboys are finishing up and they end up fifth with the brothers sliding into sixth. Team Big Brother is finally at the soccer park and trailing the field but is hoping for another team to have messed up. The almost get a break when Caite refuses to drink more than a slip of the boot of beer at the bar forcing Brent to drink almost all of it which cause him to throw up twice at outside. Even with a small section of the beer left Caite won’t drink anymore forcing Brent to down the last of it. As they head to the pit stop the pair fear elimination and expect Phil to confirm it but they have survived again.

Jeff and Jordan get to the bar and down the boot of beer and head certain elimination, as they arrive Phil tells the pair that they are last and tells them they have had a good run making them think it is over but they are saved by a non-elimination leg. They will face a speed bump that only they must do. So the race has been turned on it’s ear this leg, the two younger teams now are at the back of the pack and will race each other for elimination next leg. The Detectives have gone from worst to first and now look like a stronger team but they might have just been lucky this leg. The Cowboys proved they can be beat and I think I lot of teams are overlooking the father daughter combo of Steve and Ally. They could be poised to move up to the top next leg but we will see as teams will go to battle World War I style and someone is about to get U-turned which might cost them.
