This Week in...Brain Tumors?
Friday, November 6, 2009 at 10:26PM This is not the original post I had planned for today. I had planned a snarky
little comedy piece about what you can and can not expect from this blog in the future.
But a couple of things happened made that inappropriate at least for today.
While I was wrapped up my own little world of working about the last 48 hours
straight on this little piece of the internet, another nut job went on a shooting spree.
This time at a military base of which I'm sure you are already aware. Thing is, I've been so
wrapped up in myself, I just found out about an hour ago. Kind of makes my post
bitching about a fictitious character dying seem kinda stupid doesn't?
In my defense, I wrote that before this happened Wednesday night. We won't talk
about my views on gun control now, although I had planned to mention it
about it in my snarky little comedy piece. Cue Alanis, Isn't it ironic?
I'd rather talk about the other reason I delayed it, I saw something I didn't like today.
Yes, I did do something beside work on the blog. Since we are speaking of snarky and
comedy that is a prefect lead into reason of this piece.
Sarah Lane may have brain tumor.
Now there is nothing funny about brain tumors, and if you are thinking
"It's not a tumor." Smack yourself for me will ya?
Now if you are thinking who is Sarah Lane?
Well she's someone who has come to be very important to me during
this extended layoff. And she is very sick.
Sarah used to be the host on g4tv's Attack of the Show, a few years back.
And I don't mind telling you, that I had and still do have a big old crush on Ms. Lane.
But she left the show to travel around the world for a year with her new husband.
I'd kind of lost track of her until a she showed up an anniversary show on g4tv,
and she mentioned she was doing a pod cast with Marty Sargent another
ex G4tv personality. I loved Marty's show Unscrewed back on tech tv but he got
the boot when G4 took over. And he's currently laid off from another job like me.
Now this was about the time of my layoff, and I had nothing else to do, so
I set out trying to track down said pod cast . And boy am I glad I did,
I've spent plenty of time lying on my floor of my computer room laughing at them
doing "this week in fun" during some long sleepless nights.
The show generally revolves around weird internet news stories that generally
involve stupidity or poop humor. I've become so enamored with the show,
I've started watching the show streaming live at twit.tv and I plan my Friday around it.
I even sent in a story idea via Sarah's website for fun, never thinking she'd get it
or even if I'd hear anything but was surprised to find a note in my in box.
It just said, "I got it, Thanks Sarah". Needless to say, there was much running
around my house in joy after getting an e-mail from my crush.
They didn't use my story but I didn't care.
I've gotten in the habit of checking Sarah twitter page to keep up
with what she's doing even though I'm not on twitter. And few weeks
back I got the message everyone else got. "I just had a grand mal
seizure and I am in the hospital" followed by a twitpic of her still
in her hospital bed looking a little bewildered but still smiling.
This freaked me out and everyone else.
I won't bore you with the rest of the story but will direct you
to the links to her blog on the side of the page that explains what
happened to her better than I can. The theory has been brain tumor
or a parasite picked up on that trip around the world with her now
ex-husband. She's been on various medications that have
made her loopy and forgetful, and not the Sarah we know and love.
And her last blog entry said that she is now on prednisone. Mother-fer I thought.
If you don't know, it is a lovely slice of hell that fixes one thing and cause 12 others.
My mom was on it before she died and it wasn't pretty. Now Sarah's
prognosis is good but I tuned in today to see something I didn't want to see.
Sarah wearing dark sunglasses and in her pjs at home propped up on
her couch with some pillows via skype but still ready to do the show.
They had trouble with her skype connection and she had to hang up.
Marty looked right in the camera and said "She does not look
good, We better be extra nice to her today."
She called back and the show preceded with jokes about Zsa Zsa Gabor
glasses and chat room people continuing to be an ass to her.
You would have never know it though, because she delivered one of best shows
since the seizure. Despite everything, she still wanted to entertain us.
I'm getting chocked up a little right now just thinking about it.
Sarah Lane, you are a trooper in the best sense of the word.
Get well soon you smart ass. We want you back, we love the girl that
will post a picture of her MRI of her brain on Flickr and circle the
possible tumor and label it "lameass." The world need more of you.
(Sarah Lane) in
blog,
